Radio times

I'm scheduled to make a modest contribution to a debate on Richard Bacon's late night show on Radio Five Live on Thursday night (actually more like 0030 GMT on Friday morning). It'll be available on Listen Again thereafter.

That is all.

PS: Sorry about that. My appearance had to be aborted for technical reasons. And I had all my spontaneous quips ready, in my best handwriting.

It's not about them there sex blogs that are all the rage now in the media (Girl With An Eight Track Cartridge, etc)?

Show plenty of cleavage, that's my advice (well, I know you're on the radio, but think of the publicity shots).

Was he the naughty Blue Peter presenter?

That will be about the time I return from my work christmas party so if I'm not too drunk I will be sure to listen in.

Will try, Charles. Might even try to plug the Star of India restaurant, just three minutes from this cinema.

The advantage of radio, Betty, is that I can do it in my jim-jams (which is useful since I won't be long out of bed). And no, it's not about rudeness blogs. You'll just have to wait and see. Or hear...

Yes he was, Annie, but I think he's tired of talking about it. And he used to go out with Konnie Huq. But that wasn't a sacking offence.

It'll only be listenable if you're utterly bladdered, Billy. Have a good party, btw.

Oh arses, I was just about to Listen Again in an attempt to avoid doing some work, and now you say you aren't on it? Booo. What were you going to be quipping about? Was it Morrissey vs the NME?

*reluctantly skulks off back to treatise about the Romanian education system*

No, it was meant to be about the futility of breaking records. Although I might have got that wrong. I once showed up for a radio show thinking I was going to be talking about Modernism, and found myself debating modernisation (ie Blair and NooLabour) with a leader writer from The Independent. I scrunched up my amusing anecdotes about Ezra Pound and just offered variations on "Yeah but he's just a Tory, innit?" for 10 minutes.

Ever wondered how many people climb Everest and never tell anyone? I have.

Wondered that is.
